NEW YORK: Where to Shop
My favorite places to shop for clothes, books, and homeware in New York.

I recently partnered with the travel app Amigo, and have been using it to share detailed descriptions and photos from my favorite little spots in New York. If you want to check it out, sign up here using the code UMA.
Table of Contents:
BY NEIGHBORHOOD
Below are my absolute favorite shops in each neighborhood of New York. For a wider, ever-evolving list of boutiques to drop into, I’ve linked three google maps at the end of this guide, separated by clothing, homeware, and books.
EAST VILLAGE
I recommend walking on and around East 9th Street and popping into any little boutiques that catch your eye. Some of my favorites:
Clothing
Duo NYC - Vintage womenswear boutique particularly catering to a minimal aesthetic. They have one of the best vintage Levi collections in the city (though very expensive), and I’ve found a few vintage Jil Sander gems here over the years.
Homeware
Homeware
Jane Cookshop - An honorable mention, but sadly, Jane Cookshop burned down (as of December 2024) and will not be reopening.
Rosemary Home - a great place to buy small, antique collectibles and gifts for a girlfriend.
Books
Printed Matter, St Marks - If you love looking through zines, you’ll love Printed Matter.
Mast Books - A well-curated selection coffee table books across art, design, film, and food.

BOND STREET
Clothing
Selima Optique - Selima is known for her sunglasses, but she has an amazing vintage collection of designer brands including Saint Laurent and Alaia.
CHCM - A multi-brand mensweare store carrying Japanese and Scadinavian style designs.
The stores you know - Guest in Residence, Goop, Ref Bond
Books
Dashwood Books - Possibly my favorite bookstore in New York where I’ve found many of my most special coffee table books! Have a chat with the lovely store manager, Miwa.
Bonnie Slotnick Cookbooks - There’s not a cookbook you can’t find here; but be ready to browse.
Homeware
Il Buco Vita - Il Buco’s homeware store that will help your kitchen feel like a rustic Italian villa. A great stop for gifting (or self-gifting..)
Salter House 2nd Street - This shop makes me feel *clean*. Home goods, textiles, and undergarments that feel like they were made with love.
Ergot Records - A well-curated vinyl shop, if that’s your thing.

TRIBECA
La Garçonne - For the “quiet luxury” shopper… though I do hate that phrase. Curated by Kris Kim, this could be one of the most aesthetically pleasing stores in New York City. They carry the largest collection of The Row in New York and always have a few Sophie Bille Brahe pieces in the jewelry case.
Patron of the New - You’ll find Rick Owens, Amiri, and small hard-to-find streetwear labels.
Bode Women’s Shop - The newest addition to the Bode world. I love walking in here partly because I love their assortment of chocolate candies at the checkout, and partly because the beautiful embroidery makes me feel so whimsical.

LOWER EAST SIDE
Walk up and down Ludlow and Orchard.
Homeware
Dime’s Deli (for your pantry)
High-end Clothing
Independent Designers
Vintage
Desert Vintage - exceptional vintage pieces. Even if you can’t afford anything, this store is like a museum to browse through.
SOHO & NOLITA
Walk up and down Mott and Elizabeth for a few independent designer boutiques
For luxury multi-brand stores, visit Kirna Zabête and The Webster
Luxury vintage - No Standing NYC
Independent Designers
Still Here NY (best denim)
Oroboro (amazing multi-brand curation)
Isalis, Only Hearts, Live the Process (pop-up)

WEST VILLAGE
Start on Bleeker street and go from there
Eva Joan - embroidery, alterations
two : minds - luxury designer multi-brand store
Homeware
Bonberi Mart - for the pantry
Cursive NY - gifts and stationary
Books
