The coastal surf town to pair with your next trip to Mexico City.

Puerto Escondido is a 1 hour flight from Mexico City. If you have the time to take a longer trip, do 4 days in CDMX followed by 3 days in Puerto Escondido. THE VIBE

Think surf-town, barefoot dinners, fish taco shack, and hidden architectural gems.

Many, many ‘wfh tech employees’ from the US staying here for several months as a change of pace.

WHAT TO DO

1. Beaches

   1. Playa Carrizalillo - beginner surf lessons and calm waves for swimming.

   2. Playa Zicatela - most popular beach located right in the city centre with monster waves that make is a hot-spot for surfers around the world

      1. Come for sunset one night.

2. Casa Wabi

   1. Founded by Bosco Sodi and architecture by Tadao Ando. Serves as an artist retreat, with several rotating exhibitions. The architecture + landscape is a sight to be seen.

   2. Book a tour and transportation in advance!

   3. It’s about an hour drive from the main city, so come here for a tour and then walk over to Cobarde (a nearby Mezcal bar), before dinner in the area.

WHERE TO STAY

1. Casona Sforza

   1. Likely the most famous hotel in PE with unique dome-shaped architecture.

   2. In a great location very close to the main town and Playa Zicatela.

   3. Incredible staff that are super helpful in booking anything on the island with ease (surf lessons, tours, transportation, etc).

2. Hotel Terrestre

   1. On the side of PE closer to Casa Wabi, but further from the main city centre. For more of a remote offering, although every accommodation on this list is incredibly peaceful and relaxing.

3. Airbnb

   1. Great options for Airbnb’s in Puerto Escondido, especially if you’re going with a group.

WHERE TO EAT

Most of the hotels offer the kind of stay where you never have to leave the property, so definitely spend your time there. But here are some other not-to-miss meals:

Dinner

1. Kakurega Omakase

   1. Before dinner at Kakurega, stop by Cobarde (a lovely, outdoor Mezcal bar a few doors down).

2. Chicama - my favorite dinner in town. Sandy toes + Peruvian food.

Lunch

1. Fish Shack - in the main town, grab some fish tacos after a day at the beach.
